Welcome to my first blog as Alison Shelton Photography. Writing is something I have always done, hoarding journals since I was a child. Words are like art - they can be simple or complex, flowery or to the point, just like photography or any other creative process, what words you put first and how you choose to format and punctuate around them can change the mood significantly. I am eager to have this platform for my writing, and hope you enjoy the journey with me!

Writing this first blog did not come without its challenges, anything that could get in my way to produce a piece on my blog, did. But it’s here, and you’re reading it. I am proud to say that pushing through when I was tired, and coming back again and again when I thought I couldn’t go any further, is the same tenacity I can provide as your photographer.

Despite the challenge, I will always work until I find the solution. Choosing to figure it out & coming up with ways to succeed that sometimes my husband (one of the smartest people I know) sometimes can’t even think of.

That is why I should get hired for your wedding.

Because I get shit done.

Once I show up to your wedding, I am 1000% there. Everything else in my world stops (a really amazing quality that has come from learning how to be in tune with my body and breath). I am noticing everything - not just the subject, the bride. But the mom behind me tearing up watching her beautiful bride get her hair done. I notice the shadow the sun is creating through your high rise hotel room window - and how it lands on the vow books lying underneath your perfectly curated floral arrangement. I KNOW when your partner is gazing at you from across the room, or when your niece starts to do twirls on the dance floor; I’m even paying attention to how the light falls on your mother’s face as she gives the most touching speech, and your great grandmother holding her son’s hand all the while. I take pride in noticing these moments, but even more humility that you would trust me to be your person on your unforgettable day. I want to give you the moments you didn’t get to see while you enjoyed your first dance.

Meet: Marie and Jack. A couple that proved how simplicity was all they needed, and anything but ordinary.

When I photograph a wedding, the first thing that comes to mind is what is the couple’s personality? I aim to make sure that while I am for the most part documenting from the sidelines without interference, the creative angle matches the mood.

Thank you for being here. I am excited to take this journey with you.
